eight years after their first "lunch date" at the local chicken restaurant, clayton + jennifer came from one island in south carolina, to another in the middle of the pacific. their love of the water is shared, which made their wedding a scenic and memorable backdrop.

with the threat of rain all day, it looked as if the wedding ceremony could be in peril. even though clayton didn't catch any fish in the morning, the true catch for him was his bride, jennifer. and as the sun came out just in time with the waterfalls flowing in the mountains around us, their home was united together.

every once in a while, you have a couple that changes you. they force you to really take a look at what you're subject really is. kind. sensitive. and the ability to push you as a filmmaker to come up with something that matches the story you're trying to tell.

with jon + emi, there was a certain lightness and easiest about them. emi is one of the sweetest brides we've ever filmed. she patiently taught jon how to correctly crack an egg open without the yoke coming out (it worked the second time).

we also discussed the term "nice." while hiding from the rain prior to their first look. she mentioned how jon had used the term often early on in their dating relationship. and without my prodding, she made sure that this ultimate moment would ensure a complement. and of course, it did.

we used a lot less steadicam on this film, and focused more on composition, with the occasional crane or slider. we wanted to approach this one more gently, to match the hue of our couple. we think we achieved it.

It seemed like ages ago that I was sitting with Adam and Isabelle and meeting with them for the first time, discussing their plans for their destination wedding. They're a friendly pair, and their excitement was clear to see. Time and flew and their day had arrived.

Their wedding day turned out to be very special, despite an hour of rain after the ceremony. The overall design of the event was fabulous making my job as a photographer oh so fun and interesting. Props to superhero coordinator, Karine Matsumoto and her talented cast for dealing with a crazy bout of rain, resetting everything and keeping the order of an otherwise beautiful day.

so jon decided he wanted to play some ball before his big day. what a way to loosen up and get the juices flowing. jenn was also in good spirits as we filmed her getting ready at her grandparents house. lots of room, and a very hot house.

this was our first wedding using the revolution head timelapse tool. you'll notice at the beginning of the film, the sun rising from magic island facing waikiki. motion in timelapses is very cool, and we hope to do many more!

todd + kasey were so laid back and so much fun on their wedding day. choosing a fun song with some humor was a way to really liven the film up a bit at a place, the halekulani, that is a 5 star hotel.

so it is between rohit + sonya. one man, head over heels, and one girl, with the overwhelming sense of adoration to her husband.

combining both traditional and modern sensibilities into their ceremony, their wedding was filled with many aspects of both their culture and faith. knowing how to integrate what into their short film was made easy by seeing that, as rohit had mentioned to me, their love for each other is the most important thing in the world.

filmed at the mission inn in riverside, ca, which was one of the more beautiful venues we've been a part of.

all these things describe what it's like to be a bride on your big day. for the groom, it can be the same.

or different. critter was cool, calm, and collected on his. he stood strong for alex during their vows and was the subject of alex's father's speech.

critter had expressed his intentions to him and alex's father wanted to make sure he wrote down everything he said. it was clear, that alex was only for him, and that was the truth of the love he felt for alex.

For me, my trip to Europe was not complete without witnessing the horrors of Oświęcim (Auschwitz). When you consider the millions upon millions of innocent Jews, Christians, etc., that were murdered there, and then factor in HOW they were killed, there really is no other place in human history that can compare.

The footage is a combination from my trip, as well as US government reels that were filmed directly after the war ended. The ending is a small clip of Winston Churchill addressing England directly after the German surrender.

Like every historical site in Europa, my monopod was prohibited, which made it nearly impossible to shot steady handheld shots. Thankfully, lock and load and smoothcam with FCP made it possible to stabilize some of the footage in post.

Songs For Your Wedding Film - Why Your Wedding Filmmaker Should Choose It

Over the years, we get many couples who want to be involved in the post production of their films. Usually, couples are very excited about the final product, and want to be able to have a hand in it in some way. Generally, we get requests for certain songs, usually the couples favorite(s), that they have in mind to plug into their film. This isn't uncommon and while it's appreciated, let me explain why there's a better way.

Our process for producing a wedding film is extensive. First, there's pre-production, which is everything we do to prepare for the wedding day. Within that, we have our couples fill out a questionnaire to find out what makes them unique both individually and together. We ask what they like to do for fun, what's important to them about their wedding day, and what kind of music they like. Notice, we asked what kind, not which songs. More on that in a bit.

Secondly, we discuss the flow of the wedding day as a team. Each wedding day is going to be unique and, as a team, we prepare for every detail of when and where to be, and how we are going to capture all the moments as they unfold. If there's a song we've already determined to use, we may want to film a wedding in a certain way in order to match the music with the flow of the film.

After the wedding day, we start our post production. We cull through all the footage and find out which clips are going to work best for the feature film, and then the short film. If we haven't decided on what music to use, we first look at what types of music our couple likes from the questionnaire, but more importantly, which type of music matches them based on the footage we have. Songs have flow to them, and we have to match that perfectly with the ambient audio from the wedding, to parts of the music which makes the most sense.

Additionally, we tend to gravitate towards songs that are not as mainstream. We try to help up and coming artists by purchasing their music and rights, as well as finding the most obscure of songs to plug in. We definitely don't want to be labeled as mainstream and constantly finding fresh music is a challenge, which we embrace.

Also, we do consider ourselves artists. Like a painter and a blank canvas, he is left alone to stroke the brush as he pleases, so he may interpret what he sees in his mind and translate that. Your wedding filmmaker should have that same attitude. While there are certain techniques and fundamentals that are the foundation of every wedding, having fresh eyes and a blank canvas should be a top priority. Every wedding filmmaker will determine your film in a unique way, but they also need that trust and confidence from their couples to be able to pull off a well polished wedding film.

However, once a filmmaker gives in to letting a couple choose their own music, we have found that it often won't end there. You need to maintain that respect as a professional to be able to have your creative freedom and not end up with a nightmare in the post production process.

Finally, my favorite example of allowing us to pick the music is of a bride we filmed last year. The couple are friends of the company, so we wanted to do a great job, especially because we knew this bride was very particular. :) There was a song that I heard a few months prior to the wedding that I felt matched perfectly. We ended up using it for their short film.

Flash forward a few months later we are all hanging out and her phone rings. The ringtone that she had was the song we had used. :) She hadn't heard the song prior to the wedding day, we picked it based on our methods, and they loved it. To us, that's an example of the ultimate satisfaction we receive in being able to create a piece of art that leaves a lasting impression.

the waffle factory | brussels, belgium

Brussels is known for many things. Beer. Frites. And of course, waffles.

On my recent trip across the continent, I stumbled across this cozy little waffle joint, and was drawn in by the smells. I decided to order the plain waffle, since I'm not big on things too sweet. Figuring I needed syrup, I asked the gentleman serving them up for a packet. He laughed, and told me that in no way would I need any, the waffle stands on its own.

And did it ever.

So impressed, I asked the guy if I could come back tomorrow and film then in action. He was more than delighted. However, the next day, I found out while filming the timelapse outside the stand, that he wasn't the owner. The true owner was a little concerned about what I was doing. Nonetheless, he obliged to have me film the process of them making up the finest Belgian waffle you can find.

My goal while visiting Europa was to capture moments and come up with ideas on the spot. This was just that, impromptu shooting 101. This piece was filmed in only 2 hours. It was a challenge for many reasons, none bigger than the language barrier with the staff. As you can tell by the girl working the dough, they were a lot of fun, and made it easier for me to film.

Plus, I got another free waffle. :D

the kawaiaho church is one of the oldest in all of hawaii. built between 1836 and 1842, it's full of history and beauty. since bryan + sharon wanted to find a place that was significant, the church was a perfect match.

we didn't know the white balloons would be there until the last moment, and when one flew away, Kameron caught it. a nice ending shot. =)

So pretty. Every bride hopes of having a pretty dress, pretty flowers, and a pretty wedding. It's the dream that captures the imagination of little girls everywhere, and the reality of brides every day around the world. To be pretty. To feel beautiful. To be loved.

Brian and Kari are that couple. They are the couple that you wish every couple could be. Their warm personalities and senses of humor made it easy for us to capture their wedding day. Brian even took the time to help me with a nagging shoulder injury by giving me some exercises to do (he's a PT). Now THAT is some kind of groom! And Kari and her family were so much fun prior to the wedding. We really liked Kari's reaction when she saw that Brian got her not one, but TWO, Tiffany bracelets.

Finally, back on the blog. It's been way too long since I've just written something. For those of you who don't know, I've been traveling Europe since the end of March, so while I've had some Internet access, I've mostly been sightseeing, filming, etc. Eventually, I'll post all my photos, and some short pieces that I'm putting together, towards the end of my trip, which is in the 2nd week of May. I know, it's a long one. 10 or 11 countries in total when it's all said and done.

Sometimes, you are given the given the opportunity to see things you don't want to see, but choose to do so because you know it's for the greater good. It helps you appreciate the things you do have, as well as remember those who didn't.

That was the case when I visited Auschwitz, the site where more than 1.5 million Jews, Poles, Gypsies, etc. were murdered in WWII. The overall impact can't be measured, other than to say I was horrified, saddened, and a little sickened (literally, my stomach was turning).

The visit, combined with my trip to see Anne Frank's house in Amsterdam the previous week, really hit home with me and connected all the history I had seen and heard before. I enjoy history, even when it's the type of things you don't enjoy seeing, because it's a visual reminder of the past, and hopefully, a brighter future ahead.

Perhaps that is the full quote Jonathan was paraphrasing on the Flip camera that he bought for Grace as a gift on their wedding day. Coming from a large and loving family, Grace has been the center of her father's attention since she was a small child. This was a tough day for him, but one he could ultimately be at peace with.

Jonathan had a lot to be grateful for. He had a recurring dream that began as a child, a dream of this day, the day he would become married. But it nearly never came about, as he would become sick and in the hospital for nearly a year. However, prayers were answered, and he was able to overcome his adversity, and find the "girl he always wanted".

It didn't take an expert to figure out exactly how much both Jiyang and Magnolia meant to those closest to them. From Magnolia's younger brother, who had Jiyang as a manly figure in his life to emulate, or Magnolia's sister who from "day 1" had a very best friend, the absolute love that permeated around each and every one of those in attendance was inspiring indeed.

For Jiyang + Magnolia, it was a long journey, literally and figuratively. Coming from the east coast, their path was filled with bumps and uncertainty. It didn't take Jiyang long to figure out that without Magnolia, he wasn't the same man. As his co-worker testified, Jiyang was miserable without his soul mate. However, like the priest said, "THIS was meant to be."

Sometimes, things feel a little more grand. The kind of feeling that gives you goose bumps when you are a part of it.

For Vanessa, it started with the dress, which was tailored specially for her from a shop in Milan, Italy. We had been in touch for quite some time in regards to her wedding, and so the plan was in place well ahead for us and our SDE. It was our first wedding at Central Union Church in quite sometime, and I had forgotten just how beautiful it was. We scouted the location in advance to grab a few shots and discuss how we wanted to film the wedding.

The first look was filmed at the Hyatt Regency in Waikiki, which made things a bit challenging. First, it's a crowded spot for a first look and noisy with the waterfalls. Secondly, mixed light made it nearly impossible to expose correctly, and when Vanessa came up from behind to see Kevin, she actually came in from the side, rather than directly behind, adding to the mixed light situation.

Secondly, we had storyboarded the first section of the SDE to cut into the tea ceremony without any first look footage, choosing to keep that until the dramatic end of the video. So we chose some limo/church footage to try to compensate for that.

We also used two songs for this particular SDE, our first time doing so. I felt the first song was so powerful, with so many unique ebbs and flows, that using the second part of the song would have been redundant. So, by adding a different element to the SDE with a change of pace really helped move the story to its dramatic conclusion.

When our good friends David + Bekki approached us a few months back to be a part of their wedding day, we couldn't have been more excited. It's always such a blessing to be a part of our friends wedding!

We decided to do something a little different for this one...vintage 8 mm! While mixing that into an SDE would prove to be a challenge, our team was up to the task.

Of course, it wasn't true film that we used but rather a "special" camera technique that allowed us to give that vintage feel.

We also have the luxury of using more than our usual mix of cameras for the ceremony, including high up on the 4th floor of a building next to the ceremony site. It all came out really well and the song matched the feel of a vintage film while combining it with our regular HD footage.

christmas morning

living in hawaii has its many advantages...year round perfect weather, the ocean outside your back door, and great friends that i've made since moving to the island seven years ago.

one disadvantage is living thousands of miles away from most of my relatives in indiana. fortunately, i was able to spend my first christmas with my nieces this year. we had a blast today and i wanted to create a special holiday short showing the excitement of christmas morning. :D

what's more fun on a wedding day that playing some beach volleyball? how about some kayaking? planning their wedding around having a good time, braxton and jaclyn made sure everyone had a good time on their wedding day by having a post reception bbq and chill time at kualoa ranch's secret island.

prior to the reception, we filmed the prep and ceremony at turtle bay. after the wedding was over, we captured some images of jaclyn's class(she's a teacher), waving to her and braxton as they drove by as newlyweds. it was a perfect excuse for her students to have an extended recess period. :D

sometimes the morning of a wedding can be as casual as a run to panda express, some cheap wine and lots of laughter mixed in between. hanging with your buddies and watching football or laughing with the girls, it can feel just like you are just cruising with your friends.

but when the time came and it's time to get it on, both joel + cynthia had a hard time not getting watery eyes when they laid eyes on each other. and cynthia's quick thinking preserved her makeup, and allowed for proper photos. =)

how do you make up something like this? north shore of oahu, getting ready for their grand entrance to the reception and first dance, when suddenly a rainbow as vibrant as you ever see appears just over your head against the mountains. then, right as the first begins, it starts raining. too good to be true? probably... but it worked just well for vaiana + drew's first dance. =)

the couple are good friends of us, so it was an honor to be a part of their wedding experience. we began by filming drew picking plumeria's from trees at his house to line the aisle way, and ended it just recently with a post wedding session up at sunset ranch on the north shore. the wedding took place at another jewel, loulu palm estate.

sometimes love is just easy to spot. not only with the couples, but the affection that everyone around has for them on their wedding day. for michel + mary, that was the case. family and friends all expressed how michel was a loving brother to how mary is the "perfect girl" for her love of sports and cars according to her maid of honor.

before the wedding , i really loved capturing mary telling her bridesmaids that her handwritten vows were "only" a minute, to which one of them responded, "That' a long time!" mary then seems taken aback and expresses, "Is that long??" i'm sure she can testify that her vows felt like more than a minute. :)

A wedding in tropical paradise is a dream of many. Jennifer and Luke didn't just dream it, they made it happen. After all the morning preparations in Waikiki we headed out to the west side of Oahu, to beautiful Lanikuhonua in Ko'olina. The light during and after ceremony was absolutely gorgeous and Jennifer and Luke were so easy going it was simply a pleasure to work with them :D

Life is short and sweet, never take it for granted. Though we often hear it, we only realize it when it affects us up close. Mike's father, Charles, paid homage to his son wise decision to take up Nicole as his wife at the reception, calling it the best decision he ever made. Based on what others echoed, it seemed to be an agreed upon theme. Unexpectedly a few weeks after, Mike's father passed. Fortunately, we were there to document their special day with all their loved ones.

As you will notice, dancing is a major part of Mike and Nicole's social life. They wanted to incorporate all the fun dance moves they've learned as well as some new ones into their wedding day.

Also had a lot of fun with the TTD out at Barbers Point Lighthouse. Great times as Nicole brought another dress specific for that! A Post Wedding/TTD Session is so valuable to allow couples for more time together in front of the camera when the wedding day doesn't allow it.

it was amusing to hear the stories of the family and friends talk about val + val, and how val(erie) told her bridesmaid that her new boyfriend's name was also val(ient), hence the title "one name".

we also teamed with kristen kato at a cake life(acakfelife.com) to document the story of the cake being prepared in the morning, and brought to the reception. kristen makes the most delish cupcakes you've ever had(i had two, not good when trying to put together a SDE).

Nonetheless, I persevered through the cupcake temptation, and put out their story. filmed at waikiki, kailua, and ko'olina.

What makes a wedding special is the people. When two seperate lives and families unite for this one occasion. And sometimes, there's a third life. As in Bryce, the charming son of Nikki. =] Tony, an active soldier, finally won Nikki's heart after years of pursuing. Here's it in Tony's words, "I am in the Army and went to Iraq twice. 1st deployment was 16 months in 2006-2007. And the second deployment was 12 months in 2008-2009. I actually proposed to Nikki on my 2 week R&R (Rest and Recovery) in April of 2009. I spent 2 days with her, proposed, then left the next day to hawaii. After a few days I came back to Oregon and thats when she said "of course". And then I went back to Iraq."

We documented their day as if it was any other for Tony. Waking up and hitting the gym is a regular. But for Nikki, it was anything but. With sweeping views of the ocean, and being surrounded by all her loved ones, she donned a stunning red and white wedding dress! It was seriously cool! She also used another red gown for the reception, then changed back into her original wedding dress. =]

Maybe the best part of it all was that Nikki's father was able to minister her wedding. It was one of two prayers he had for his daughter that day. The other, obviously, was Tony. =]

We always love to shoot at the only resort on the North Shore of O'ahu. Mahalo to all the staff for the accommodations the previous evening to gameplan for the day.

daniel + uyen | the mile high city . {eternity}

Sometimes words that are spoken don't need a translation. They don't need to be put on paper or made to be understand, because the essence of the message is very clear. In Vietnamese culture, it is a tradition to have two ceremonies: One where the groom accepts the bride into the family, and the other where the bride's family does likewise.

Daniel + Uyen experienced their ancient tradition of honoring the ancestors, as well as a modern wedding at the breathtaking Mile High Station. Daniel shared the story of me how he was driving by one day and randomly met the owner, who was living in the building at the time trying to save money and pay the bills. He said he knew that he was going to get married there one day.

Flash forward, as Uyen and him are searching for wedding locations. Suddenly, as they were driving downtown Denver, Daniel saw the old brick building and immediately had an epiphany, they were going to get married there.

Other than the three ceremonies, we also covered many of the pre wedding/tea ceremonies such as the tailoring of the suit and the lapel and centerpieces being made. It was such a deep, rewarding experience that myself and our talented photographer/cinematographer Michael, made us grow in many ways as filmmakers and storytellers. Upon conclusion of our filming, we tried to come up with a score for this video, and had a particular song in mind.

However, one day I heard this soundtrack and was immediately struck by how the drums int he song closely matched the taiko drums played at their reception. From that, ideas started coming in, and the rest was history.

The day after session was pretty epic as well. Red Rocks is a stunning park where sandstone rock formations dominate the landscape. The Red Rocks Amphitheatre is a place where the musical legends come to play off the perfect natural acoustics. The coolest part about it? It's free to walk on the stage(when no concerts are happening)! Needless to say, the backdrop mixed with Daniel + Uyen went well!

Big shout out to Josh Gold for helping us out! Oh, and one more thing...adversity struck the day before the wedding when our 5D went out. Fortunately, we had a fleet of 7Ds and even a t2i to work with. The crop factor sort of changed the entire ballgame for us, but we adjusted well by changing our perceptions...and lens selection. =]

Lenses were the 11-16 Tokina f2.8, 16-35 f.28, 24 f1.4, 50 Zeiss f1.4, 100mm f2.8 macro, and 135mm f2.

This was just one crazy day! Driving from the leeward side of the island, we get to Waikiki early in the morning to prep, drop off our screen at the reception site, then head to begin prep shots. After finishing in Waikiki, we head back towards the Ewa side, but a major accident halts our travels. Fortunately, everyone else was coming the same way, so we made it with plenty of time, which delayed the wedding by about 45 minutes.

Which meant less time to put together the SDE! Fortunately, John and Kristilyn made it so much fun for us. Their sweet personalities are just so real, and so easy to warm up with. The reception was at the Luau Garden, a fantastic reception site.

The "do you love me because you need me?" is a little jab the priest took because they were "late". It was a tough question, and I'm not sure our couple knew how to answer!

we also got to use our fun new lenses, the 24 f1.4 and 135 f2. Love them already!

adam and meagan are a unique couple. by that, i mean that they are probably two of the sweetest people you're ever going to meet. in addition, they also contrast in that everyone seemed to have a story about adam's eccentricities, while everyone spoke of how 'perfect' meagan was. i thought it was striking how a couple can be so similar, yet so different all in one package. apparently, meagan gets adam, which inspired the song selection.

meagan provided a lot of great sound bites before the wedding that made it hard to squeeze many of them into the highlights. the day was filled with lots of joy and laughter. filmed at the royal hawaiian in waikiki beach.

Sometimes, weddings can be truly moving and personal. For us, this was one of those weddings. I've known Drew personally for nearly 6 years, or ever since I moved to the island. And I've seen him and Vaiana grow from friends, to more than friends, and to now...married.

So we decided to do something special for them at their reception, only it wasn't as easy as you might think. Vaiana is a very persistent person...even to the point when I tried to explain that the slideshow needed to be later in the reception program, she wouldn't budge. Which meant that I had to divulge my secret...so in reality, it was a half surprise!

On a technical note, we brought a couple sweet primes including the 24 f1.4 and the 135 f2.0. The 24 we used to fly with on the glidecam and the 135 for some great bokah for the ceremony and reception. Also used some of the Tokina 11-16 for the slider and some other zooms.

Overall, a solid shoot and a great team to help support me! Dan even stepped in and saved the screen from falling over from a gust of wind during the video presentation!

The sights, sounds and smells of a wedding day are often what you remember. With Joel + Kathy, that is what we took from there's. The ceremony was held at a lovely countryside chapel, while the reception was held at an old sugar plantation called Haiku Mill. Being such a fun, down to earth couple allowed us to be able to integrate a variety of ideas, including a day after session at the Kula Lavender Farm. We love day after sessions because they're always so much fun!

A fun, intimate wedding in the heart of Waikiki at the beautiful crystal chapel at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. Brandon and Annette braved leaving the wintery midwest for a wedding in paradise.

We had a lot of fun shooting with this particular couple. The bride, Annemarie, and her bridesmaids had a good sense of humor and sarcasm to them that made it feel so light beforehand. Our groom, Brandon, was a little more nervous before the wedding, but did just fine.

We had a lot of fun shooting Jason and Erin's wedding day. Their ceremony took place at Foster Point at Hickam Air Force Base on Oahu, Hawaii, and the trees there was a majestic backdrop to their vows. We even caught a glimpse of Air Force One as President Obama was staying here in Hawaii! (We couldn't get close enough to make the final cut)

For this wedding we brought out our 5D's, 50mm 1.4, 16-35 2.8, 70-200mm, and 24-70. We used some glidetrack, jib, and glidecam 4000HD Pro. Had a little fun at the end of the video with the 100mm Macro we also brought.

a seattle wedding

"Fly to Seattle and shoot a wedding? I'm down!"

That was my reaction when the photographer, Bethany Murphy, asked us if we'd be interested in filming Joshua and Jennifer's wedding in Seattle. So for the last couple months leading up to the big day, we were so amped for this wedding in the great northwest!

One day prior to the wedding, we scouted out a few locations at Pike St. Market for the day after shoot we were planning to do. It was everything we expected from what we had seen...fun, crowded, and full of energy! What we DIDN'T expect, was the great weather we got! Asides from the occasional morning shower, the weather was actually nice, even sunny, the majority of time!

We finally got to meet our fabulous couple at the rehearsal, Joshua and Jennifer, and quickly bonded with their down to earth personalities. The rest, is their story...

Oscar and Junko were raised thousands of miles apart, yet, it was their passion for salsa dancing that brought them together.

With their families residing in the Dominican Republic and Japan, they decided Hawaii would be a good halfway point to share with their loved ones the most special day of their lives.

The ceremony took place at Lanikuhonua Estate, a beautiful oceanside venue on the west side of Oahu. The following morning, we met up at the North Shore at the small town of Haleiwa.

Wow, did we get some amazing shots! The colors up there are so vibrant and the backdrops so cool. Everything came together just perfect!

Fisheye goes to Seattle!

It's been a bit since we posted an entry on our blog, but I had to share our recent trip to Seattle last weekend.

We got flown out to film the wedding of Joshua and Jennifer, an absolute treat of a couple! The wedding took place at the Blue Ribbon Cooking Company, an ideal spot by the water and boats in Seattle.

The next day, we took our couple down to the world famous Pike St. Market Place. It was our first time there and we had a blast! Highlights to follow in the next few weeks!

The Kahala - A place for royalty

That's right, royalty. A handful of U.S. presidents have been to this prestigious resort, as well as celebrities from around the world.

And the stars for this day in late summer on the beautiful south shore of Oahu were Patrick + Suya.

Fusing a traditional tea ceremony with a wedding outside by the Kokohead Gazebo, their day was as picturesque and meaningful as you can imagine. Enjoy!

So I had a groom ask me the other day about the crazy stuff I've seen at weddings. I told him about how sometimes they'll blindfold the groom as he removes the garter, only to replace the bride with her grandmother as he gets down. Or when I was best man in a wedding and the groom pulled out breath spray right before planting one on the bride.

This, however, was a first to me, and to me an all-timer... (note I didn't shoot this, I could only wish I had)

Loulu Palm is such a PHAT place to get married! I mean seriously...like 2 acres right on your own private beach on the North Shore. It really doesn't get much better than that.

So you can imagine my excitement back in May when I got a call from their coordinator saying they wanted to book us for their wedding the following weekend. We started off at the Turtle Bay Resort down the street as Jen got ready, then moved to Loulu to get with Ryan.

I had to include the shot of the champagne going everywhere after one of the groomsman chugged it. How could I not? One of those moments I'm sure those guys will always remember.

As for the rest of the day, just spectacular.

Golfing with a bonus

Today I had the pleasure of golfing with my good friend Chad, who is visiting the islands from Texas with his wife. I got to know Chad before he left through the church we went to. We had a great time today. The bonus is I have a farmer's tan to show for it! :-)

Tomorrow we have a wedding at Loulu Palm Estate on the north shore. It's going to be absolutely gorgeous. Hopefully, we'll have the highlights online within the following days.

Aloha everyone!

We are officially back and better than ever. From now on, this blog will be full of life and many updates about what we are doing!

So here's our first video we put on the site. It was Mana and Rachel. They are locals here in Hawaii, but Rachel took a job in Kuwait a couple years back, and so it was quite the hike back to the island!

It was kinda rainy that day, and since the ceremony was at Kualoa Ranch, heading there the odds of rain were probably 98.3%.

Yet, we were so blessed that God held off the rain and we even had a little sun! Here's their highlights video, mixing in some shots from their engagement session at Moanalua Gardens.

Celebrating Larry Fair // 1951-2009

On April 23rd, the island of Oahu lost a friend. Someone who touched the hearts and lives of so many people. He was my father and he was your friend. Over the last 5 years, Larry Fair had enjoyed a life he never thought was was possible. Struggling with a disability, he came to Hawaii to find peace and a better way of living. In so many ways, he found exactly that.

In 2004, he founded Live Internet Weddings which gave him an opportunity to do what he enjoyed doing most, helping people. So ironic that person who needed help physically would be the giving one to others. Receiving national attention from news outlets such as ABC, CNN, and the New York Times, he was able to create a successful business from a dream, reminding all of us that we can all achieve whatever we put our hearts and minds too if we too will believe.

He leaves a huge void in my heart and the hearts of my family and his closest friends. A reminder that life is all too often a short journey that leaves us but one opportunity to seize. God's gift to us was my father, and your friend. Remember what he gave to us, so that we can learn from it and too pass it on.
