teresa + john | to love to cherish
one is a tv producer. the other is an architect. one is confident. the other is reserved. the difference in personality is quite evident as is the affection for the other. and despite the rain that threatened to put a damper on the day, spirits ran high throughout.

darren + stephanie | you're my very favorite
The things that we look for at a wedding as cinematographers are those aspects that exemplify the couple and their relationship with not only each other, but their family as well. Walking in the doorway to Darren + Stephanie’s wedding at the Oasis Waterfront Estate you saw just that; 1000 hand made paper cranes for the bride and groom on their special day.
The close bond represented by those cranes was easy to see as we filmed D + S getting ready and laughing with their bridal party. While they had some moments that brought them close to tears, we thought that nothing defined this couple better than the smiles n their faces the entire day.
From the giddy Stephanie jumping up and down in excitement for their first kiss to the laughing Darren during the tea ceremony as they caught nuts meant to bless them with another dozen children, their excitement was contagious and everyone knew they couldn’t be happier.

garett + joanne | rocks
sometimes it's the simple things in life that be be so significant. a gift from a friend. a letter from a family member. or...a rock.
garett and joanne have had many journeys together, and each time they travel somewhere, they collect a rock from that location as a memory of that location.
in some ways, that's symbolic of being the rock towards each other. their relationship is that of being best friends to each other, providing the shoulder to lean on...the rock.
the week started off with g + j greeting all their families and guests at the honolulu international airport. very grateful that the security there allowed us to come in and film those very special moments.

the wedding film of joseph + chiyo
what is fantasy? what is reality? in some cases, it's both.
when we were approached nearly a year go to film joseph + chiyo's wedding, the idea was to highlight their lives in a way that reflected all that they valued. both having children meant they were now going to unite into one family. and also, their wedding day meant their lives would be joined together by the vows they were taking.
hence the reason for the black and white. it's our first ever venture into the simple medium for our films. why? well, as you notice j+c live a life of fantasy. they have a beautiful family, home, and adventurous lives. it's colorful. it's exciting. it's nearly other worldly.
but what is simple is the love for each other. the ceremony was an expression of that in the b+w, stripping away all the vibrancy that surrounds it, and making it clear what was day was ultimately about. a simple choice. a simple love.
huge mahalo to andrew and his pilot kyle from Higher Definition Media. they provided the aerial footage for us throughout the film, which really enhanced the film.
also, to desiree, faith, and karine with seasons of life events (seasonsoflifeevents.com), easley designs (easleydesigns.com), jake shimaburkuro (jakeshimabukuro.com), aloha on the rocks (alohaontherocks.com), frank amodo photography (amodophoto.com), and dynamic sounds (dynamicsoundshawaii.com) for all your efforts in making this work.
and of course, to j+c, without them and their willingness to let us be adventurous, would have never been able to pull it off.

denny + melissa | more than...
it doesn't take long for infectious personalities to do just that. being around a group of people that are upbeat, full of energy (even at 6 am), and generally happy can only make you that way. showing up before the sun rose, we strove to capture just that. denny + melissa's natural joy was evident in getting to know them, and even more so on their wedding day.
and for us, it's easy. we sit back and let things happen. our style has always been journalistic and natural, only to direct when lighting or other visual adjustments need to take place. movement and placement of our cinematographers is an art, and never the same wedding to wedding. however, our philosophy never changes, nor does our storytelling techniques.
denny + melissa embodied what we hope every couple is. overjoyed to be marrying the love of their life. and when it happens, it's easy for everyone to see. we just tell their story by letting the sights and sounds do that. :)

aish + bonnie | the new best day of my life
there is nothing passive about aish. whether it be betting on ufc fights, having the nicest tv, or tv in his car, or his family and friends....he is proud to be passionate about everything. including his wife bonnie.
bonnie, is the cool, calm, and compatible other half who didn't seem to break a sweat the entire day. and how could she? with friends and family close by, the only time she came close to ruining makeup were the tears that were nearly shed as her bridesmaids read letters they and other loved ones had written to her for her wedding day.
and the toast by his nephew marty...that nearly brought the house down! his toast was certainly the standard that evening.
filmed at the four seasons maui
shot with mostly canon glass except for the zeiss 50mm 1.4.
